The paper was well-received and created a stir amongst the “business-oriented” profs at the conference. I am in the process of developing a more extensive paper (drawn from the conference paper) for publication. Overall the conference was very successful, lots of good papers and many local participants who were able to provide a number of insights re the South African context. The paper was reproduced in the proceedings pages 793-799.en
The link between human resource management (HRM) and workplace learning is more often as not ignored if not assumed in the work and learning and adult education literature. The purpose of this paper is to critically examine this nexus and look again at HR perspectives and supporting arguments; to review issues of post-industrial society, globalization and organizational culture and to draw some tentative conclusions for our work.en
