Because this International Conference focused on “Research Methods” presenters were not only from all over the world but from many different disciplines, many with whom I would normally have little contact. Many times the networking is more important than the presentation but this conference had positives in both areas. I met several scholars with whom I will have continuing contact. My presentation was successful in that it drew a crowd (there are many concurrent sessions at this conference and it can be that hardly anyone attends a particular presentation), and the audience was sincerely interested in my topic. Some lined up to talk to me after and I have sent copies of my presentation to a participant in Japan and one in the eastern US. I appreciate AU’s support to attend this conference.en
This presentation will review the early and recent literature relevant to multidisciplinary collaborative research teams, presenting the threats and barriers as well as the strengths and opportunities inherent in their structure. The analysis of these reports will include this authorâ views on the assumptions of superiority of such research groups, the communications and trust issues, the usual rules of engagement, and the types of outcomes produced. This will lead the listener to the core premise of this presentation, that the utilization of reflexive practices such as sharing written personal perspectives on the research topic, shared reflection about process and findings, and negotiating interpretation within such multidisciplinary research groups, holds the highest potential of establishing the right circumstances for successful outcomes and experiences.en
