Scaling Up Local Food

Abstract

The key challenge facing local food initiatives is how to scale up to the point of transforming (rather than merely “informing”) the much larger conventional food system. This article, based on research by the BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA), looks at examples of initiatives to scale up the distribution and use of local food. The article also discusses some of the challenges and barriers to scaling up local food systems.
