This presentation will explain the concept of learning objects and metadata and introduce the eduSource suite of tools, applicable for mobile learning. Learning objects are enabled and made interoperable using mobile and other devices through the use of international standards and specifications. eduSource Canada is a pan-Canadian project which aims to develop the open source infrastructure for a network of learning object repositories. The suite includes metadata guidelines, applications, and hardware specifications. Metadata is essential for promoting semantic interoperability, so the project team has applied the IEEE LOM, creating CanCore, which is a metadata implementation profile which facilitates employment of the LOM (Berners-Lee, Hendler, & Lassila, 2001; Geroimenko & Chen, 2002).en
