To explore and understand the social economy in relation to natural resources and sustainable rural development in order to: • increase awareness; • identify and build capacity; • effect policy to scale up the social economy; and • examine urban-rural solidarities Our goal is that the social economy become the dominant issue two federal elections from now. Our goal is to explore, enhance, and build the role of the social economy in rural revitalization. Our focus is on over-all community development but with specific emphasis on sectors/enterprises including: • shellfish aquaculture • community forestry • eco-tourism • alternative energy production for local sustainability or market • organic agriculture These topics will all receive attention over the course of the next 3 or 4 years.
