SERC 1’s mandate includes both housing and human/social services. The research priorities reflect a balance of both issues as well as several cross-cutting issues. The agreed research priorities are: 1. The role of community based organizations in the provision of affordable housing; 2. The use of housing co-operative assets, both to create more affordable housing and to leverage other CED projects; 3. The role of co-operatives in providing social care (e.g. elder care); 4. The role of faith based organizations in the social economy; 5. Non-profit sector capital markets; and 6. Labour issues – e.g. labour market measurement, impact of unionization.
