Archaeology in the Rocky Mountains

Abstract

For ten years, Dr. Sheila Greaves, AU's Chair of the Centre for Work and Community Studies; has been analyzing stone tool collections from a series of unique pre-contact housepit villages in the Rocky Mountains. Jointly funded by Parks Canada and the AU Academic Research Fund, her recently concluded three-year field project at the McConnell Creek site examined one of the oldest stratified sites in western North America. One of the most complex and intact sites, it is located within the only series of housepit villages found anywhere in the Rockies. Methods and results of the research will be presented, along with preliminary conclusions.
