| dc.description.abstract | From his Vancouver location, Dr. James Gifford, AU Tutor and Assistant Professor, Fairleigh Dickinson University, will use reproductions of the various bibliographical states of the graphic novel "V for Vendetta" to reconstruct the social function of remediation (from political agitation to instrument of cultural hegemony). A theory of media bias and social communication that bridges the Toronto, Birmingham and Frankfurt schools of culture and media studies will be elaborated by retracing the transformation of the comic from British underground pulp to American mainstream comices, to graphic novel, print media dna film. Critical paradigms developed while teaching CMNS 358 "Popular Culture" at AU will be discussed as part of a meta-critical project (rather than a study of primary text or print history). | en |
