Between the Auden Generation and the New Apocalypse: Politics & Poetry Networks in the 1930s and 40s

From his Vancouver location, Dr. James Gifford, AU Tutor and Assistant Professor, Fairleigh Dickinson university, will retrace anarchist and socialist English poetry networks competing in the 1930s and 1940s in continental Europe, Britain, and North America. Reconstructing networks from archival materials, particularly those tied to English Surrealisim, this literary analysis will emphasize the relationship between political ideology and open forum. Not just for literary scholars, this presentation will also appeal to those interested in WWI political activism.
